Genius Trolls and Fakes on YouTube (Muppets v. BarelyPolitical)
20100817 at 22:20 BarelyPolitical: BEST TROLL EVER ?!?
If you make videos and show them (with comments enabled) on YouTube, you will encounter nasty trolls. Here BarelyPolitical interviews a few “A-list” YouTube-rs on that subject.
The user “TroliPoli” or “TrolyPoly” is a complete fiction, created for the purpose of making fun of trolls. The youngster who plays the troll does a very good job, but I don’t find the “breaking down sobbing” part at the end believable.
The Muppets: Beaker’s Ballad
Muppet genius: Beaker starts to “meemee” a cover of Kansas’ Dust in the Wind when all of the sudden, 4chan- and YouTube- style troll commentary starts interrupting the song. The YouTube “annotations” feature is used to simulate hateful commentary in the video frame itself, as though poor Beaker were enduring the trolls live and in “real time.” Of course, the incendiary comments cause poor Beaker to go up in flames. Most users don’t quite get that it’s a vehicle for satirizing opinionated trolls and as such it’s a perfect piece of meta-commentary. It’s the gestalt of YouTube and 4chan trolling.
Best throw-away line on social media evar:
“Absolutely! Let’s keep Digging until this thing’s buried!”
See Urban Dictionary under “LOLspeak” for a refresher on the lingo.
